‘I found it absurd’: West Ham’s Tomas Soucek speaks out on Ondrej Kudela ban for racist abuse of Rangers star

West Ham and Czech Republic star Tomas Soucek has spoken out about Ondrej Kudela being banned after he was found to have racially abused Rangers’ Glen Kamara.

Kudela banned for 10 matches

Slavia Prague would face off with Rangers in a Europa League knockout clash earlier this season.

During the second meeting between the pair at Ibrox it was reported that Ondrej Kudela of Slavia Prague had racially abused Rangers midfielder, Glen Kamara.

What followed was Kudela being handed a 10-match ban and Kamara being suspended for three games for assaulting a player:

Kamara would speak to ITV following the incident and detailed what had been said:

The controversy has not stopped there, however. When England played Romania in a friendly recently Nicolae Stanciu, who plays his club football for Slavia Prague, decided not to take the knee in support of Kudela:

“I did the same with Slavia, when I played against Arsenal in the quarterfinals of the Europa League.

“It seems normal to me, and I decided to make the gesture for my colleague from Slavia, for Kudela, who without any proof was suspended for 10 matches after the game against Rangers.

“Just like that because a team-mate of Kamara’s heard that word that I can’t say. I decided not to take the knee and I don’t think that’s the solution.”

Now, West Ham’s Tomas Soucek has had his say on the situation, sticking up for his international teammate Kudela, who is missing g Euro 2020 due to the ban:

“I found it absurd. I can’t imagine him saying anything racist. I see how sensitive the British are to racism every day. Two cultures collide because we think a little differently than they do.”
